My Teaching Philosophy

I pride myself on being a committed, innovative, and reflective teacher. My approach to teaching is guided and inspired by the work of bell hooks and Paolo Freire and is underpinned by a desire to reach out, to make a connection and to create an environment where all students can engage, learn, critique and question. For hooks, education is about transgressing (hooks, 1994). We should, she says, ‘teach to transgress’ and remind ourselves, as teachers, that ‘the classroom remains the most radical space of possibility in academy’ (hooks, 1994: 12).

I see this Hub as part of that vision and ethos - supporting all students to excel, transgress - and become who they are capable of becoming.
